Austria Catch-Up and Pictures

Quickie Re-Cap, August 21, 2011

Salzburg and Vienna were lovely! There were lots of beautiful buildings in Vienna and Salzburg was adorable! We visited the house Mozart grew up in as well as the house where he lived for the rest of his life. A definite highlight of our time in Salzburg was the Sound of Music tour, which took us around sights where the movie was filmed, including the houses that were used for front and back (with lake!) of the von Trapp mansion. We learned a lot about the real story (which is, in fact, quite close to that of the movie) and saw some beautiful landscapes and exciting sights (like the gazebo from “16 Going on 17!!!!). In Vienna, we finally got to try “sacher torte,” a dry but rich chocolate cake that my mom was dying to taste.
I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but we found a really beautiful park in Innsbruck that we all thoroughly enjoyed.
